Each year our Parish has the privilege of arranging a trip to St. Mary's, Roman Catholic Church and Mission in Tohatchi, New Mexico.
St. Mary's is based on a Navajo Reservation, the trip is a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience firsthand the presence of God and the Holy Spirit at work in a different culture. Having once been the poorest parish in the country, St. Mary's remains one of the poorer and needier parishes. Our Mission Trip offers the opportunity for volunteers to help in a very practical, hands-on way. We paint, we build, we repair, we hand out clothing, we hand out food, we travel to where the need is.
This is a week of community with each other, as well as an opportunity to create bonds with others from different cultural backgrounds.
A typical day will start with Mass, assignments for the day are established, and we go to work! Volunteers receive 2 days off during the week to explore and experience the Navajo reservation at their leisure. Accommodations and food are
provided.
In the spirit of Matthew 25:40 "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'
